Too long, too long
Related to my previous post about Tony Blair, and my desperate desire to see the back of him ... it occurs again how sensible the US presidential limitation of 2 terms is compared with the UK system where a prime minister could carry on indifinitely. Yes the argument would go, why not if the public re-elect a party, why not carry on. But governments often get elected by default, because the alternatives are worse, or shambolic. This is government by the least worst. And we don't elect leaders, only parties. A system which protects the public, and the incumbent, from their own inability to get out in a reasonable time seems to me quite admirable.
